I recently painted a large landscape inspired by a view along a single track road known as the 'Strath' which runs through the mountains in the far north of Scotland. Hidden at the foot of one of the mountains was a little cluster of houses which were barely noticeable on the large canvas. I decided to create a smaller canvas focusing in on that little section, which I've entitled 'At the foot of the mountain'.
This is painted on a deep edge canvas with the scene going right around the edges. It's painted in heavily textured impasto acrylic. As the canvas has a deep edge it doesn't need framed. With this size of canvas, I prefer to sign on the side and you can just about make out my initials on the side of this, in among the riot of colours.
