Black-a-tor Copse is a natural woodland on the west side of Dartmoor, less well known than Wistmans Wood in the heart of the moor but at least as interesting. The West Okement runs below, and on the slopes grow gnarled oaktrees surrounded by moss-covered granite boulders (which is why the sheep couldn't eat the young shoots one suspects). The overall effect is stunning in any type of weather...
