Artist's description:

This "Arctic Sentinel Miniature" is a 5" x 5" x 1" painted created in acrylic and hand embossed unleaded pewter on a cradled birch panel. It represents an Inukshuk: this Inuit word means "in the likeness of a human" .. They are monuments made of unworked stones that are used by the Inuit for communication and survival. The traditional meaning of the inukshuk is "Someone was here" or "You are on the right path."
I had the opportunity to visit Nunuvut in the Canadian Arctic a few years ago and fell in love with Inuit art. Since then, I have been developing a series of mixed media paintings representing Arctic themes....polar bears, wolves, kayaks, igloos, inukshuks etc...all in hand embossed pewter on an acrylic background and with acrylic emulsions as snow and ice.
This little inukshuk can be hung on a wall or it can stand on its own on a shelf. It has been varnished and protected by an almost resin-like finish that will last years and years.
The sides have been painted white to continue the environment of snow around the edges.
Please check out my 12" x 12" polar bear called "Vanishing Arctic Beauty". If you are interested in a larger size of a painting similar to the inukshuk or the polar bear, please contact me.
