Approaching Denver
I painted Approaching Denver in a very abstract expressionist manner, totally wet on wet. I paint this way for the challenge. I never know how or if it will turn out until I'm finished. It must be so boring to stick to a plan and paint what you already know you are going to do! My advisor, the great abstract expressionist Larry Poons once said, "If you have it in your head exactly how you want it then you have already painted it."
Once I'm finished, people can see what they want to see and feel how they want to feel. Struggles are easier with a bit of humor and by being light on your feet. That's how I paint. It gives me such joy!
With this particular painting, personally it reminds me of the view out the airplane approaching Denver, over the farm fields with the mountains behind!
