I like the work of Gerhard Richter, in particular his still-life paintings. This painting is in response to his still-life of apples - I loved doing it - the composition is so simple and the colours are lovely and fresh. It is quite a meditative process focusing all your energy on capturing the exact way the light alters the colour of each apple and making the shadows work properly. Who knows, it might be the beginning of a series of still-life paintings like this.
