'Anticipation', watercolour, 19.5 x 11" (49 x 30 cm).
This is an area of woodland close to Fochabers in Moray, northern Scotland where I walk most days with my dog, Zena. Most days I think 'I'd really like to paint this scene' but I've been putting it off, mainly because of its complexity! Then, one day, I just went for it! My attraction for this scene was mainly because of the handsome beech trees: where I live, most of the trees are pine and I really fancied a change! I am also hopelessly attracted to the myriad of branches (many more than shown here), and the way they cut across the sky. And, as usual, it's the sunlight and shadows which so fascinate me. I love the result, which says everything I wanted it to about this pretty corner of my woods! The painting is available to purchase, mounted but unframed.
