Artist's description:

A life-size portrait of a 20th century hand-stitched petticoat which was made in Brazil for Kitty's grandmother. Kitty wore it for her christening. It was shortlisted for the National Open Art Prize 2014.

Wax combined with pigment (encaustic) is an ancient medium. (see the Fayum portraits made between 200 and 100 BC at The British Medium). It is long-lasting and durable. Just remember to avoid heat and direct sunlight and extreme cold. Dust be wiping with a lint free cloth.

beeswax, paraffin wax, pigment
