The Spree river in Berlin, like most urban waterways, contains alternating spaces of beauty and ugliness, reflecting the contrasts of the city itself. A walk along the shore in the Treptow district, down by the old boats, reveals all sorts of flotsam and jetsam; forgotten spaces and objects whose 'use' has apparently come to an end. However, a new phase has begun with the transformation into a cacophony of rusty colour and texture. In this so-called waste I find incredible beauty- the beauty of change, of metamorphosis and of course, the deliciousness in the colours. It is this lushness of the ordinary that I hope to share with others; metaphorically speaking, even the most seemingly awful thing can conceal a world of beauty if one takes the time to look closely.
