I made the template for this piece in the life drawing studio whilst a model was posing for about 20 minutes. I used a scalpel to cut paper, without making a drawing first. This pose was full of interesting shapes. I love the relaxed feeling of the hand and foot. Back in the studio, I painted a sheet of thick paper a warm shade of powder blue with layers of acrylic paint. Then I cut the figure from the blue paper and mounted it onto crisp white card. At first glance this cut-out may look like a painting, but close-up some of subtleties of the cut paper technique I use are revealed: you can see where I've cut the paper with a scalpel and there are variations of colour and brush marks in the painted paper. The blue paper has a glossy finish which contrasts nicely with the matt white background.
The artwork comes in a protective clear plastic sleeve. There is plenty of white border around the artwork to allow for framing.
Each artwork is unique and hand made. I make the same designs in a maximum of 5 different colours. Once these 5 pieces have sold, the edition is over and no more artworks are produced from that design. I never make two of the same design in the same colour.
