Artist's description:

I made this action image of an Alpine-Renault A110 1600 driven by Philippe Galilen and Michel Guichard during the Heaton Park (special stage 39) of the 1973 Daily Mirror RAC Rally. Shot on a Nikon FTn with an 20mm Nikkor wide-angle lens whilst stood on the corner of a low wall, the image was hand-printed on Ilford Multigrade RC paper with a velvet-stipple surface (Note: hand-printed by me and NOT a Giclée or C-type machine print). The image area is 40.5 x 30.5 cms (16 x 12 inches) on trimmed 48 x 38 cms (19 x 15 inch) paper, and is signed and dated in ink just outside the image area.

This image has only ever been printed once at this size, and this is the actual print I made in 1975 - 40 years ago - for my portfolio when I carried my work around to national newspaper, consumer magazine and book editors when gaining freelance commissions after quitting my job as a senior designer with Granada TV in 1974. This actual print was also used for demonstrations and temporary exhibitions when lecturing in the UK on behalf of Ilford Limited (I also wrote their 48-page technical product brochure for the 1986 Photokina trade show) and Nikon UK. Printed reproductions of this image have also appeared in several photographic books and magazines since the mid-1970s.

This ‘one-off’ vintage print is in very fine condition with a very few spot-retouching marks barely visible on the print’s surface under certain side-viewing conditions; but they will not be visible under normal lighting, or close-up, when framed under glass.
