An Alice class quarry locomotive waiting patiently on the levels at Dinorwic quarry.
This would have been a common enough site up above Llanberis prior to the quarry closing in the late 1960s. It is a testament to the durability of these little locos that many of them are still in steam today on tourist lines, all polished up and jolly looking. Much as I like the idea of preserving these old chunks of Welsh history I must confess to preferring them in their original unwashed condition.
It is painted in oils with a palette knife which I hope captures the dirt and grime and humble nobility of these locos.
