This work is done in oils on stretched cotton canvas. It represents those special moments in life when I felt at total peace, content to enjoy the simple pleasures of being alive. These are the moments we cling to when faith is almost lost - when a glimpse of paradise flickers in our memory and reminds us that life if worth living, no matter how dark the day or heavy the rains. Paradise is not lost, and it is never forgotten - it waits just over the horizon in the dawn of a brand new day.
The frame for this work is fabulous. It's a worn and flawed vintage mirror frame I found in an old estate called Casa Juana in Mexico. It's made of carved wood that was gilded with gold leaf, and it creates the perfect sense of nostalgia for this painting. Its shabby-chic attitude adds a touch of glam and beauty to any room, without pretense or formality. I want this work to go to a very special person who appreciates the nuanced detailing that went into this little treasure.
