Artist's description:

This is an oil on canvass study after Sir Thomas Lawrence's "The Red Boy".
I have always been fascinated by the original subject. The boy is Charles William Lambton, the eldest son of John Lambton, an English politician who was to become Lord Durham. The boy was due to inherit his fathers estate but died of tuberculosis at the age of thirteen. soon after the painting was completed.
Lawrence portrayed the boy sheltering from a gathering storm. Did he suspect or have knowledge of what the future would bring? We will never know.
