Artist's description:

I was inspired by the paintings of Tamara Lempicka. A friend gave me some postcards, thinking that they were similar to the style I was working in at the time.
Having painted one portrait in the style of Tamara, I then chose another picture to study, using the same technique as in Tamara (1). I created the image in an angular way, emphasising the shadows and enlarging the eyes to make them the central feature of the painting.
I painted her on a circular board and then mounted it on a square piece of hardboard painted black to emphasise the starkness of the picture.
There were many layers of paint used to achieve the final blending of colour and the black and gold frames on both Tamaras are of the highest quality.
