This is one of my favourite tree studies. This is a carob tree which grows in a private garden in Spain, the trunk of which has evolved into such intricate patterns over the years, it is beautiful and unique. The tree is so old, it needs to be supported by metallic poles (which can't be seen in this print), for fear the weight of branches will tear it apart. When I look at that incredible tree, I wonder how long it has been standing there, what it has witnessed in its long life… which I assume has run for A Thousand Years.
