This fairly large, landscape painting is of The Blackwater River which runs alongside the historic town of Kells in Ireland. I loved the nearly mauve colour of the water and how it contrasted to the cream and russet-coloured grasses and other greenery surrounding it.
The words painted across it are reminiscent of the beginning of a story or poem, leaving the viewer to imagine what that story might be. The lettering here describes how the river slices through the verdant landscape.
This painting was exhibited with other works in this series and members of the well-regarded poetry group LitLab each picked a painting as inspiration for a poem, which they read at the launch night.
It is painted on a thin-edged canvas, with white, painted edges, while it can be hung as is, this particular painting would benefit from framing at a later date. All my paintings are signed on the front in oils and also on the back on the canvas in pencil.
