This painting is from my 2014 'Secrets & Skies' series. These paintings were about the way in which open spaces bear silent witness to our thoughts, emotions and secrets. All my paintings are a reflection of that inner dialogue with the Landscape.
This particular painting is a loose impression of dramatic storm clouds over the coast near my studio in Pembrokeshire, (but that isn't really the point!) It could be anywhere, because for me the painting is more about a feeling not the place. In this case, the heavy humidity that hangs in the air before a storm echoes the way that emotions often simmer silently before they reach the point of violent outburst.
The painting combines a variety of techniques; staining and glazing in thin layers and 'sfumato' blending. Paint has been applied and blended with soft brushes.
The title reflects the sentiment of the painting.
