There are thousands upon thousands of different types of mushrooms around the world, and here are 76 more in this mixed media painting.
Each mushroom contained within the artwork has its very own pattern and character, and they are all separated by walls of fabrics. As each one has its own identity, they perhaps each need their own name.
The underground life of mushrooms fascinates me. We spend so much of our time exploring what we can easily see, when all around us are seemingly invisible little (and sometimes not so little) worlds going on not too far from where we are.
This is an obsessive piece of work that took many hours to complete.
Each of the painted sections have been sprayed with a museum quality satin varnish to protect the colours from UV rays.
Gouache, ink, sequins, fabric & stitch, all on paper, all mounted onto canvas
