Between wheatfields, amongst wild grasses and flowers, surrounded by oaks, dust, heat, cool shadows and early evening pink skies, a barn with a red granary door. There are swallows and house martins, there is birdsong, and there is a quietness that hovers.
This painting is built up using several layers of paint and several layers of patience. The colours overlap each other and create a shimmer of light and depth. There is also what was once called "optical mixing" as the eyes play with the different tonal range.
