Recherché is my re-imagining of a minute area of my painting, "Terra". There's an area in Terra that looks like a bromeliad, which is a unique type of flower. You may have to look that one up if you aren't familiar with it. After my overlaying glazes to create shapes and rich depths of color, overreaching stalks and red reaching forms, I was left with a unique, quirky and somewhat precious composition. I punched out some of these forms with charcoal and pastel. And big fun for me is always naming pieces. I love the way some words sound, as well as the creation of words I come up with that have double meanings. For this piece, however, I chose the beautiful word Recherché not only for the exotic beauty of the word itself, but the meaning in french, which ranges from "elegant, strange, unusual", to "sought after" and even "affected". All art is affected because it has to be created, but who is to say that any piece is too much so. I'll leave it to you.
Recherché arrives prewired, ready to hang.
