In 2012 I was commissioned by one of my patrons to do a black & white painting. The patron told me that he loved Franz Klien's work and also the work of Qin Feng, a Chinese artist who does contemporary ink paintings. I studied both painter's work for some time even going so far as doing derivative works from their works I found most inspiring. After completing my studies I embarked on my own series of contemporary black and whites or monochromes. Witness, the original of which sold at my recent Atlanta show, is one of the first larger scale versions from this series.
These black & white paintings take my practice and melt it down to its basic most minimal aspect. Each time you look at one of them you should see something new that you hadn't seen before. Perhaps a face, a spirit or even a gesture or a place.
