Waterfall (2024) Original Oil Painting by Tim Smith

78 x 62 x 2cm (framed) / 76 x 61cm (actual image size)

$861.05

This painting marks a deliberate exploration of composition and format — a challenge set by myself to work within a landscape orientation, rather than the more intuitive portrait or square format that often guides my practice.
For me, portrait format compositions feel natural, offering a sense of vertical balance and introspection. By contrast, the horizontal landscape format opens into a broader visual and emotional space — one that demands a different kind of structure, rhythm, and movement. In approaching this painting,
Though conceived as an experiment in form, the work is firmly rooted in the tradition of English Landscape painting, celebrating light and atmospheric effects, and the enduring relationship between viewer and environment.
Presented in a simple, elegant recycled aged oak batten frame, the painting is given room to breathe and supplied ready to hang. Hopefully the video gives a clear ide ofscale and how the surface reacts to the light, changing in nature through the day.
