In Totem of Love I wanted metal and glass to become part of one vertical composition. I normally work extensively with aluminium and steel, but copper and brass have a completely different warmth. Here they form the structure that carries and protects the coloured glass.

The colours were chosen deliberately. Gold-yellow represents light, red represents the heart and our emotional world, and green refers to nature and life. Together they rise vertically like a contemporary totem.

The transparency of the glass is important to me. Light does not merely illuminate the sculpture; it becomes part of it. As daylight changes, the colours gain or lose intensity and the appearance of the work changes with them.

Totem of Love is therefore both a physical object and a symbolic one — an exploration of light, nature and human emotion held together by metal.
