Red Memory (2026) Original Oil Painting by Alejandro Faura

Red Memory is part of my series of paintings featuring children and fish and explores memory as an inner space where experience remains, transforms, and leaves its mark on our identity. The child appears facing the dark silhouette of a fish, while the large red space between them becomes a fundamental element of the composition, representing emptiness, distance, and the space between memory and present experience. The work emerged from my interest in visually expressing what remains within us even when it is no longer physically present. Painted in oil on canvas, it combines a monochromatic treatment of the figure with an intense, gestural red background; visible brushwork, paint texture, and the expansive negative space create a quiet yet tense composition in which the emptiness becomes an essential part of the narrative.
