Mirror (2010) Original Oil Painting by Anastasia Kondratovich

This painting was inspired by a window in a small Italian town, where the glass became almost indistinguishable from a mirror. Instead of revealing what was behind it, the window reflected the landscape around it: the deep turquoise of the lake, the greens of the trees, and the warm terracotta tones of the surrounding architecture.

I was drawn to the way the reflections transformed an ordinary window into something almost dreamlike, where architecture, water and nature seemed to exist together on the same surface. The painting captures that fleeting moment when a familiar view becomes something unexpected, suspended between what is seen and what is reflected.

For me, the window becomes both a physical surface and a visual invitation to look closer, discovering another landscape within the landscape itself.
