Cruciform (2025) Original Mixed-media Sculpture by Tatiana Johnson

'Cruciform' begins with a photographic image that is transferred onto translucent polyester through sublimation printing. The process softens the original image into a muted field of tonal shifts, allowing the photographic form to remain visible while becoming less fixed and more atmospheric.

The textile is stretched over a handmade wooden frame, where slight surface distortions and changes in light become part of the work itself. Rather than presenting the photograph as a flat, stable image, Cruciform explores how photography can become a material presence—something experienced through surface, translucency, and spatial encounter.

The work reflects my ongoing interest in photographic materiality, slow looking, and the porous boundary between image and object.
