Floral Textile
This work on paper is inspired by the floral pattern of a piece of Chantilly Lace.
Kathleen writes, 'Lace’ is a group of paintings derived from the structure and pattern of three samples of Chantilly Lace. The samples form part of a gift given to me by a family member, the box of textile samples dates from a collection from 1922. I was intrigued by this box of lace samples that were hidden in an attic in Edinburgh, I studied the floral patterns and used many of these to make original paintings. I used the colour blue for its link with many historical printed textiles. This work would transform an interior space bringing the past lacework ‘back to life'.
