Original artwork description
This original watercolour and ink drawing portrays a rhinoceros with a quiet, relaxed presence. Expressive lines and loose washes of colour capture the animal’s distinctive character without striving for photographic realism.
Combining the spontaneity of drawing with the fluidity of watercolour, the work invites the viewer to look beyond the animal’s imposing appearance and discover a sense of calm and individuality.
An original artwork on paper, created with watercolour and ink.
I was drawn to the rhinoceros because of the contrast between its imposing physical presence and the quiet individuality that an animal can express. Rather than emphasising its strength or aggression, I wanted to explore a more relaxed and unexpectedly gentle character.
I used watercolour and ink to develop the image through loose washes and expressive lines. The combination allows the drawing to remain spontaneous while giving the animal a strong visual presence.
What makes this work special is the contrast between the rhinoceros’s powerful appearance and its unassuming attitude. It invites the viewer to look beyond familiar expectations and discover the individuality of the animal.
