And as I listened to news of others abroad at the mercy of the elements , all was eerily still at home outside, and inside, the social media was awash with comments about a strange post apocalyptic ambience . I rejected the yellow tones on my palette and turned instead to teal and turquoise, black, and a rusty red. The result is this artwork, my own hurricane.'

'This photo was taken in 2009 from the window of my Shanghai hotel room. After days of constant heavy rain I woke up early in the morning to catch a flight. The rain had just stopped. The surreal and silent cityscape that surrounded the hotel windows was almost hypnotising. For an hour I stared at the view and watched the skyscrapers appear and disappear. I waited for the heavy mist to dissipate so I could take some clear shots. I ended up missing my flight...'

Cobb Hall at the University of Chicago was designed by architect Henry Ives Cobb, and is the oldest building on campus. Cobb modeled his designs after the Gothic style of architecture at Oxford in England. I used my architectural skills to create a realistic portrayal of this elegant building that represents its proportions and depth.'
