"Just After Twighlight, 2014" by Joe Hendry

“The landscape paintings I create tend to be quite large scale. Before I produce these I often experiment with smaller pieces to get ideas and methods of paint application. This small original artwork is painted in top quality "Golden" acrylic paints with some additional drawing work on top with coloured pencil. Not only that, but what makes this little painting extra special is that it is painted on handmade paper from the Khadi mill in South India. This paper is recycled from cotton rag, is quite heavily textured and has a lovely torn or decal-edge. You can leave the edges exposed when framing or have the painting mounted.”

This is the second in the buttercup series of cow paintings produced by Jenny. “This is an original plein air watercolour sketch of the late morning sun along St Martin's Lane, London. It's one of my favourite London views, with Trafalgar Square, Soho and Covent garden just around the corner. I wanted to capture the street's movement with dry brush, and the sunlight with shadow and highlights.”

"Galactic Rainbow, 2013" by Chad Powell

“I spent over an hour taking the above photograph, which consists of over 50 individual photos, resulting in a 360 degree view of Castle Haven, Isle of Wight. Very little post-processing was needed on the milky way in these photos due to how clear it was that night, combined with the little light pollution in the West towns here. The negative-effects of light pollution is evident in the left of the image (facing East) which is home to the populated towns of Ventnor/Shanklin/Sandown. As the light pollution starts to fade out a large faint smudge can be seen, this is in fact the Andromeda galaxy!”

“Beautifully dressed, ready to dance, but instead of being noticed, instead of basking in the spotlight, you stand in the corner and watch. It’s difficult to be overlooked when you’ve worked so hard. Everyone wants/needs recognition for their accomplishments and it’s not easy to just be ignored. You know you’re ready to be seen but why isn’t anyone paying attention? It’s been my experience that the more you focus on getting attention the less you get. When you relax, focus on the work, and stop looking for the praise, you’ll find it comes to you. When you’re doing good work, when you pour your heart and soul into it, eventually people will take notice. And if for some reason they don’t, that’s OK too. You know in your heart you’ve done your best.”

"Evening light over fields, 2014" by Nathan J Art

“What had been a beautiful summer day was now becoming cloud filled sky. The last of the day time sun was shining through some vicious looking storm clouds. The weather was changing. A bright and powerful light shone across the fields leaving shadows caused by the clouds. I had been walking for some time with my canvas and paint before finding this spot; I quickly applied the oil paint thick and as quick as the light was changing. I wanted to capture the transformation from a gorgeous day to a summer storm approaching. I put as much information onto the canvas as I could before the rain stopped me in my tracks. The canvas got a little wet on the way back but I feel that this only added to the mood and feel of the painting.”

“My work is about the weird relationship between different cultures and time. However, the work itself is a formalist painting with traditional mediums, such as, oil, acrylic on canvas. It is made up of layers of thin paints, and soft edges. My work also takes an appearance of the contradictions, such as old and new, and peace and violence which co-exist side by side in modern societies. I found that there is a strange beauty in these conflicting appearances.”

"Oncidium equitant Orchid in color 1, 2002" by Gordon T.

“I grow and breed orchids. I love them, to me they are living sculpture, so naturally I end up doing paintings on this subject. A few years back I went through a phase with this particular type of orchid, Oncidium equitants. My paper is a traditional handmade mulberry paper made in Thailand; it's a thick parchment type paper, strong yet pliable. I have the paper made to this size to get the deckled edges which adds to the textural effect.”
