“This is an original plein air watercolour sketch of the late morning sun along St Martin's Lane, London. It's one of my favourite London views, with Trafalgar Square, Soho and Covent garden just around the corner. I wanted to capture the street's movement with dry brush, and the sunlight with shadow and highlights.”

The artist travels a lot and works en plein air, but often a plain etude is just an excuse for further work, and then the work begins in the studio.
