Great painting of winter! Not a joyful winter with first snow or a Christmas kind, but a tired one with a sorrowful, grayish snow around. But there is hope in just barely visible patches of fresh green here and there... This painting has a masterful depth and dimension to it, with everything becoming progressively less clear in the background as fog comes in and slowly envelopes everything in the distance. I feel lucky to have this painting!

Amidst the millions of paintings of Venice, in all colours and from all angles, French artist Philippe Perennou has created an exceptionally original and interesting perspective of the great city, illustrating its darker, grainier side and mystery-invoking elements. While modest in size, and (cleverly) muted in its colours, the work stands out for these very subtle tones and the associated atmospheric feeling, making us want to linger and be drawn into the scene portrayed. It is a welcome change from many of the garish representations available, and its execution is top class. This is an artist to keep an eye on and definitely add to the collection.

Phillippe cares about his work as well as his customer. His painting is beautiful in our home and he made sure that it came to us even though the mail system failed in delivering it properly. His work is a special addition to our home.

Lovely, just lovely! The artist paints one of San Francisco streets faithfully to the original but without trying to just copy the view in front of him. Instead, he conveys the general feel, the atmosphere of the City on a summer day, with a band of fog just outside and the streets free of it, warm and sunny.

It could really be any city, but the cranes in front make it unmistakably Oakland. And really only the hint of them, which makes the atmosphere somewhat mysterious. I love how the painter managed to tell so much with spare masterfull strokes.
