    I feel that I have been liberated to experiment with a freer more abstract painting style this weekend. After 34 years, Friday was my last day of employment as a Landscape Architect working in Local Government. I have founded a creative arts and landscape consultancy which will be the vehicle for my work as an artist , landscape architect and urban designer. check out peopleplacenature co uk I am looking forward to working with my favourite creative people on some great projects to benefit people and nature and to enhance places and I am particularly excited about having more time freedom to pursue my passion for painting!!

    I am very pleased to have sold my large original painting 'The smoke that Thunders 'today. This will be sent by air with Transglobal Express to Georgia for framing before being forwarded to the buyer. I feel happy that the buyer is investing in having the painting framed... so all in all a significant investment. This is a first for me using the Artfinder framing service in America and I cannot help wondering where the buyer is based. However a nice mystery!

    The sale of my painting Buriton Pond IV was a small milestone, being the 30th of my paintings sold through Artfinder. I have now sold over 80 paintings and 40 limited edition prints in total over the past 5 years … which I guess is an achievement of sorts. Fame and fortune must be around the next corner!

    Water soluble oil paintings

    I am having fun painting with water soluble oil paints for the first time. These seems to work particularly well on paper. The colours are very vibrant and one can achieve some effective translucent effects. ..plus no smell and the brushes wash out in water. Miraculous if a bit pricey ....but I am worth it ! Can you guess where the image depicts ?

    Sky Landscape Artist of the year 2018 -Wildcard

    I was very fortunate to have been one of the 50 'wild card ' artists invited to take part in one of the Scotland based 'Sky arts landscape artist of the year 2018' events in the competition this year and spent a really enjoyable day painting at the Inveraray Castle estate in Argyll back in June. 'Aray Bridge- Inveraray' was the painting which I created that day within the four hour allotted period. Thankfully the dry weather kept the midges at bay ! This is a large painting at 76 cm x 76 cm...and I had the hopelessly unrealistic idea that I would complete two at this size during the time slot available. This series is the most popular on the sky arts channel with an audience of over 600,000 regular viewers.... I was told to keep my participation a secret until October! The series will be screened from 16 October on Sky Arts... I will be the mad chap in the leather hat!

    Now that I have my new loft studio up and running with it's two large powered rooflights, I have great ventilation and can tackle some large and very smelly oil paintings without the family complaining !!! Bliss.... Oil paint just has a greater intensity of pure colour when you want it....

    Moved into new loft studio today !!

    Moved into new loft studio today !!

    The flooring went down this week and I finally moved into my new loft art studio today. I am now able to play my old vinyl records which have been in storage for years ... Spandau Ballet 'Gold' extended version.. Great Sax solo..!
