    Freshwater Bay in Winter

    Freshwater Bay in Winter

I have enjoyed creating this large painting this week depicting the crashing waves at the spectacular Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight in recent weeks. The Bay takes on a special character at this time of year where it seems to be fully exposed to the full force of the Atlantic ocean. Indeed you can draw a line directly from the Bay across to Florida without hitting any other landmass... This seems surprising to me for the Isle of Wight ....or is it obvious?

    Rockpools

    Rockpools

I have been fascinated by rock pools lately. They are an endless inspiration for abstract paintings. My favourite spot on the Isle of Wight is Freshwater Bay, which has an iconic dramatic coastal landscape with it's white cliffs complete with coastal rock stacks, as well as some coastal caves and fabulous rockpools!

    Titchfield Art Show Prize

    Titchfield Art Show Prize

I was very pleased to have been awarded 3rd Prize at the Titchfield Art and Craft Show this weekend for my painting 'Wight View'. This is a vey well attended show with over 300 amateur and professional artists exhibiting and with more than 1000 visitors over the two days, so some fairly stiff competition! At the last show I did not sell any paintings but this year I sold five ...Persistence is the key to all things!

    Upper Hamble River

    Upper Hamble River

'Upper Hamble River' is one of my paintings exhibited at the the Titchfield Art and Craft Show this weekend 27th -28th Nov, which had coincided this year with the nearby Bursledon Art show. I have volunteered in a small way to help with setting up and manning both. Just an enormous amount of work involved by some very dedicated people who care about art and raising funds for important local community facilities and charities. They are to be greatly commended.

    Landscape Strata

    Landscape Strata

I am working on some oil paintings at the moment for a change. There is a quality to oils in that you get several days in which to manipulate the paint and the effects. Oils are much more forgiving than acrylics.. the obvious downside is when you are finally happy with the painting it can take a fair time for the painting to dry!
