    March Launch and New Horizon: A Return from the Rockies

    After a long season of travel and creative reflection across the Rocky Mountains, I am thrilled to return to my studio. This period of 'artist-block' was truly just a preparation for a new surge of inspiration. I am back at the easel with a fresh series of original palette-knife works and abstract expressionist pieces inspired by the raw textures of nature. Starting in March, I will be posting new original work collection regularly.     Sculpting Light: Behind the Scenes of My Textured Aspen Forest Painting

    This is my favorite stage of a palette knife painting—when the aspen trunks start rising off the canvas like real bark. I’m layering buttery oils mixed with cold wax (up to 1cm thick!) to capture how Colorado sunlight filters through the trees. Each stroke is deliberate: the flat edge of the knife creates smooth planes, while the tip etches delicate branches. Fun fact: I never use brushes for these pieces. The knife’s drag leaves ridges that catch light differently throughout the day, just like the tree trunks outside my Denver studio window. This 24"x36" original (Enchanted Aspen Grove) isn’t for sale—but I’m currently accepting commissions to create a custom version for your space. Want autumn gold or winter snow? Larger or smaller?     HEALING HANDS: A VINTAGE FRESCO.

    "Healing Hands" features two prominent handprints and various spiral patterns against a textured background. The handprints are centrally positioned, with one handprint oriented upwards and the other facing downwards, giving a sense of symmetry. Each hand is detailed with lines defining the fingers and the palm, and a large spiral sits in the middle of each palm. Additional smaller spirals float around the hands. The background has a crackled effect, suggesting an ancient or weathered surface. The predominant colors are earthy, with warm shades of brown and reddish tones, juxtaposed with the darker lines of the hands and spirals. The edges of the piece are irregular and fragmented, which enhances the rustic and organic feel of the work. The piece evokes a primitive or tribal aesthetic, possibly referencing cultural symbols or ancient artforms. The inspiration behind this artwork comes from my fascination with vintage frescoes. The pursuit of this hobby requires certain levels of material and drawing skills, along with an understanding of color theory. When executed correctly, the differences between (real) and (fake) ancient Fresco styles are explored in this work. There is nothing like the original frescoes in my opinion, and I wanted to capture that essence in "Healing Hands." The process of creating this artwork was truly unique and challenging, but I am proud of the end result. I believe that vintage unique healing hands fresco retro symbol antique modern classic.     Photographs of grizzlies in their natural habitat. Homer, Alaska was the starting point of her adventure into the wild Aleutian Mountains. A float plane ride later, she arrived at Katmai National Park, a haven for grizzlies. She witnessed the grizzlies interacting in their natural environment, engaging in natural behaviors. We were given an insight into the life of these majestic creatures via her photos and videos. OLena Art's day in the wild with grizzlies was an incredibly memorable experience.
