Artistic Exploration

Oceane Pouele is continually moved by the beauty of the natural world.  She draws on the classical imagery of mountains, forests, rivers and lakes which have served to inspire many landscape painters before her time. Artistic influences such as the Japanese prints of Hokusai as well as the tradition of Romanticism all serve as a continual source of inspiration. She combines these influences with her own imagination to create pieces which serve as a way of magnifying the understated and ethereal qualities found in nature. Oceane’s work strives to transport the viewer away from the every-day into the imagined.

Biography

Oceane is a French emerging artist, working from her studio in Bristol, United Kingdom. She was awarded a Masters in Printmaking from the University of the West of England in 2015. She then spent a year at Florence Classical Arts Academy where she was awarded a diploma in Classical Drawing and Painting in 2018. Since 2015, she has exhibited in Florence (Italy), Bristol (United Kingdom), Rijswijk (Netherlands), as well as  Mbabane (Swaziland). Her art prints have since sold to collectors internationally.

Oceane’s journey as an artist is one that is interwoven with her life experiences.  She chose to leave home at the age of 17 to live in South Africa for two years, where she came across the tradition of printmaking for the first time. 

“Because of the regular power-cuts we had at the school, we often opted for very traditional printmaking techniques such as relief printing, which required no electricity. We also travelled to Johannesburg and met with professional printmakers.  I remember discovering the long-standing tradition of etching and was very impressed by the complexity of the process, which involved using an etching needle on a metal plate, then exposing the metal to an acid bath.”

Years later, Oceane would become a professional printmaker in her own right, specialising in the printing processes of lithography and etching. Following her Masters she spent a year in Florence, Italy studying under master classical painters, this new approach has greatly influenced her work going forward. Oceane also works part-time a as a curator for an art consultancy curating art for hotels, yachts and private planes.
