    Where Better to Start

    Where Better to Start

When I was sketching out the painting of me I was struck by how much my skull shape was the same as my grandfather Harry. I had not noticed any physical similarities between my maternal grandfather and I before, only to realize we had the same skull!! We don’t really look too deeply at people, probably as it is viewed as rude or intrusive. You can, however, really find out about a person from painting their face and head. You can see their inner self to a large extent and their personality expressed in the lines of their face. I unearthed an inner attractiveness in some that I had not seen originally. I now feel I know all the models I have painted much more than I did. I also have a strange attachment to those I have painted. I think this is not only due to, as was the case with Renaissance art, an artist having to love a work into being if it is to resemble the person.

    Still Alive

    Still Alive

I have a deep love of cinematography which seems to combine painting composition and photographic. I also love the movement of film. I think my paintings all have movement even they are still life paintings. I want my paintings to have this sense movement, vibrancy, life. As with this still life "Hiding in plain Sight" - https://www.artfinder.com/product/hiding-in-plain-sight-a8e3/#/

    Happy Collector!

    Happy Collector!

Hi James, I got the painting. It is stunning, especially the eyes that show another scene(s), like painting in a painting. I am so happy to have it. I'll write a nice review as soon as the Arfinder sends me the link. Regards, Sinisa

My Recent BBC News Feature - How EMDR helped me realise a potential I never realised I had.

My Recent BBC News Feature - How EMDR helped me realise a potential I never realised I had.

Until this year I had never picked up a paintbrush. Here is part of my story on BBC news. "His story is all the more remarkable as, at the same time as learning to paint, he has been battling post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). ...However, his condition was only formally diagnosed this year. Mr Johnston said: "... one of the reasons I never painted was a fear of failure. And my fear of failure was acute - a symptom of PTSD." Since his diagnosis, Mr Johnston underwent Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. "It was all about getting over the confidence problem and the fear that I had too much to learn. But gradually, with each painting, that inherent fear of failure has started to evaporate," "Something creative such as art can and does sustain therapeutic recovery for people with PTSD. Equally it was EMDR that helped me realise this potential I never realised I had." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-south-west-wales-37801878

Painting outside is a challenge but very rewarding and good for the soul. And fun in a cold, wet way.
