    The Three Sisters

I am delighted that the Zoryan Institute, a non-profit and registered charity in both Toronto and Massachusetts have asked to use this image "The Three Sisters" as part of their art book highlighting the areas of Diaspora and Genocide. I am very happy they also want to use the description of the piece which highlights the effects of the Irish Diaspora. "This painting is from is a series of paintings that are relatively autobiographical and also explore the lability of memories and how they change through time, via experience, insight and loss. How we can see more in them as we mature. The paintings deliberately leave parts of the canvas unpainted, "unfinished" or blurred to express how memory alters with time and how some of those who helped make our memories are no longer here to share them with us anymore. They also express the things we have forgotten or would rather leave forgotten. Three sisters reunited after decades apart. One sister returning briefly from Canada, after forty years away with her two sisters in Ardboe, Tyrone, Ireland, is stuck between two times and two worlds, glad to be back home but soon to be leaving it again. The pain of exile and the Irish diaspora, even in brief return."

    Moving Beyond Form and Representation

"...the portraits ...express feelings revealed during the creative process and feelings embodied in the moods that push the palette knife or brushstrokes. It is all about moving beyond form and representation to essence...
