    The Moon and the Marshes

This painting has been created on a handmade box canvas and is inspired by my many walks beside the Dee estuary and the marshes. Following the coastline of the River Dee the salt marshes provide the perfect environment for wildlife and they are especially beautiful beneath a night sky and a full moon.

    High Water

    High Water

This mixed media abstract painting was created on a handmade box canvas after a walk beside the Dee estuary at high water. It is strongly advised not to walk out across the sands unless you know exactly the time of the next high tide. It is also very important to return to dry land two hours at least before high tide. It is easy to be caught out as the tide comes in with frightening speed. Sometimes, depending on weather conditions such as strong winds, tides can be much higher than expected.

    STILL WATERS

    STILL WATERS

This painting was started after a walk beside the Dee estuary on a very still and quiet day. At times the estuary waters can be stormy. Last winter the weather was so bad and the tide was so high that it caused flooding as the waves crashed onto the land. This day however was very peaceful and the estuary waters were very still. These waters can be very deceptive though as beneath the surface of the water are strong undercurrents.

    Sea Glass

    Sea Glass

As I walk along the beach I love to collect sea glass. These smooth pieces of glass are from broken bottles, jars and glass that have been discarded by man, left on the beach and then reclaimed by nature, recycled by the sea. It can take many years for the broken pieces of glass left on the shore to loose their sharp edges and become smooth and tactile as they are tumbled by the waves and currents of the sea. Slowly the surface of the glass loses it's shine and becomes pitted and frosty. Today because of the use of plastic bottles and containers and recycling there is far less glass tumbling in our seas and oceans.

    As I Slept...

    As I Slept...

As I Slept... is evoked not only by memories and experiences from my own childhood but also of my children when they were small. It describes my happiness as a child, waking up to find that as I slept the snow had been falling. For me there is something so special about thick, untouched snow. When the world becomes still and silent . An experience I have also loved sharing with my own children.

    Estuary At High Water

    Estuary At High Water

This mixed media abstract painting was created after a walk beside the Dee estuary at high water. In all weathers and seasons the estuary's beauty is everchanging. When standing at the waters edge the expanse of water is vast. On clear days the water meets the Welsh coast but on cloudy days looking out at the horizon the sky and water meet.
