    How to Paint with Bold Colors & Keep Them Vibrant | Abstract Painting

    Do you love bold colors but sometimes find them difficult to work with? In this abstract painting process, I’ll show you how I build a layered foundation before introducing a powerful color like Fluorescent Pink. Rather than starting immediately with the boldest color, I begin with water-soluble charcoal and a softer palette of Pale Rose Blush, Burnt Sienna, Naples Yellow, and Pale Olive. I gradually build value, texture, movement, and color relationships underneath. Once that foundation is established, I introduce Fluorescent Pink and allow it to become the dominant color. Because there are already interesting layers beneath it, the pink has something to interact with instead of simply sitting on a flat surface. Throughout the painting, I also demonstrate my intuitive approach to wet-on-wet acrylic painting, applying colors directly to the paper and allowing them to mix naturally while they're still wet. I use brushes, a palette knife, stencils, charcoal, and layering to create organic marks and unexpected color variations.
