    Behind the Pastel — Building a Leopard Layer by Layer

    A moment from my studio while creating one of my highly detailed leopard portraits in soft pastel. My wildlife paintings are developed slowly, layer by layer and detail by detail. I work across the animal gradually, building the underlying colours first before adding the finer markings, individual hairs, highlights and subtle changes in texture. This photograph captures the artwork while still in progress — part of the leopard is fully developed, while the unfinished area reveals something of the process behind the finished painting. I particularly enjoy this stage of a portrait, when the animal begins to emerge from the dark background and develop its own presence and character. For me, the eyes are always especially important. Technical realism alone is not enough; I want the finished portrait to convey a sense of life, individuality and connection.     In My Studio — Bringing a Leopard to Life

    A glimpse inside my studio with one of my detailed wildlife pastel paintings. Creating a realistic animal portrait is a slow and meticulous process. I build the fur gradually, layer by layer, paying close attention to subtle changes in colour, light and texture. But for me, realism is about more than technical detail — the most important part is capturing the presence, character and spirit of the animal. I especially love working with big cats. Their strength, beauty and quiet intensity make them endlessly fascinating subjects, and I always begin with the eyes, searching for that moment when the animal starts to feel alive on the paper.     London Art Biennale 2023 — Leopard

    London Art Biennale 2023 — Leopard

    I was honoured to have my wildlife painting Leopard selected for the London Art Biennale 2023. The artwork was exhibited as part of this international contemporary art event and was also included in the official London Art Biennale catalogue. Seeing Leopard presented alongside works by artists from around the world was an important milestone in my artistic journey and particularly meaningful for a painting that has gone on to receive further recognition through exhibitions and publications.     Cover Artist & Portfolio Feature — Artist Portfolio Magazine

    I was honoured to be selected as the Cover Artist for Artist Portfolio Magazine, Issue 52, with my pastel painting Leopard chosen for the magazine cover. The issue also included a multi-page portfolio feature of my wildlife artwork, presenting several of my pastel paintings, including Leopard, Tiger, Mother’s Love and Lemur. Seeing Leopard on the cover and a collection of my wildlife paintings presented together across the magazine was a very special milestone in my artistic journey. Each of these works reflects what is at the heart of my practice — capturing not only the beauty and detail of wildlife, but also the individuality, character and emotional presence of each animal.     Wildlife Artist of the Year 2024 — Exhibition Finalist

    I was honoured to have my pastel painting I See Your Soul selected as an Exhibition Finalist in the Animal Behaviour category of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation's Wildlife Artist of the Year 2024. Seeing my work included in the official Wildlife Artist of the Year publication alongside such accomplished wildlife artists was a very special moment. Wildlife conservation and the emotional connection between people and animals are deeply important to my work, making this recognition particularly meaningful to me.     The British Art Prize 2024 — Selected Artwork

    I was delighted to have my pastel painting Leopard selected for The British Art Prize 2024 and featured in Artists & Illustrators magazine as part of the competition's selected artworks. Thousands of entries were considered, with just 50 artworks selected, making this recognition particularly meaningful to me. Seeing Leopard published alongside the work of so many talented artists was a wonderful moment and another important milestone in my journey as a wildlife artist.     Featured Artist — Artists & Illustrators Magazine

    I was delighted to be featured in Artists & Illustrators magazine, UK, in March 2024. The editorial feature, “An artist who paints animals’ souls with passion and precision,” explores my artistic journey, my love of wildlife and the techniques behind my highly detailed animal portraits. My pastel painting Tiger was chosen as the main artwork for the feature. It was a wonderful recognition of my work and particularly meaningful to see my passion for capturing not only the appearance of an animal, but also its individuality, character and spirit, reflected in the article.
