Painting pretty and pleasing pictures

I would describe my paintings as magic realist, in that they depict a common representation of the world except for a seemingly magical element that is accepted as normal within the world of the painting. The starting point for my work is usually the sublime beauty of Nature, in particular Ireland’s countryside which acts as a backdrop for the abstract concepts or stories that interest me. My intention in painting is to look at abstract and tangible systems that we weave into the quilt of humanity, our created cultures and the stories we tell to give our identities a foundation and our existence a substance.
