Igor Barkhatkov is an award-winning and acclaimed Belarussian painter, and this is one of his signature impressionist rural landscapes. I have bought it for both artistic and sentimental values; it reminded of my grandparents' home village in Eastern Europe. The communication with Mr. Barkhatkov was prompt and on-point. The painting was well prepared for postal delivery: packed in a wooden-crate and wrapped in plastic.

During the peak of pandemics, two of the Igor Barkhatkov’s paintings brightened for me this unfortunate time. “Before the Storm”, painted in 1979., depicts five women running home from the field work, with tools in their hands. Painted predominantly in dark colors, with brisk, rough strokes, it brings to life the moment just before the hard rain hits, with wind blowing stronger and stronger, and the sky getting more and more gray. Composition of painting, with group of women positioned towards the right upper corner, additionally creates the impression of rush. A common moment from the country life transferred to canvas to be remembered. One more, beautifully captured moment from Belarus countryside, is in the painting “Early Spring”, from 2018. Barren, but at the same time joyful scenery. The snow completely melted, nature’s first green had not appeared yet, but bright sunlight, poultry roaming in the field, and horses grazing outside the stables, assert that the winter is finally over. I’ve been collecting Igor Barkhatkov’s paintings for some time. Each one brings to my home a spirit of countryside, so similar in the countries of former Soviet Union and region of Balkans, where life is hard, but still fascinating, since it is peaceful and quiet, runs in a slow pace and in harmony with nature. It would be worth mentioning that those paintings, safely packed in wooden crates, were sent to me when the shipment to and from the many countries all over the world was delayed or temporarily blocked. Igor found a carrier that was able to deliver it promptly, to the other side of the world, in just a few days after the purchase. Thank you, Igor!

“Autumn evening” painted in 1994, wonderfully depicts one of the last bright and sunny days in late fall, just before the early winter hits, and days become gloomy and rainy. Although not large in size, this painting is rich in details: long shadows, almost golden leaves hit by the last rays of sun, alley covered with fallen leaves, old house and shed in the distance, and still bright and blue sky. Whoever visited countryside at that time of the year, can recognize on the painting that particular moment of the day when you say to yourself: it’s about time to go indoors and put some firewood in the stove or fireplace, since the sun is setting fast, and it will become cold very soon. I’ve been collecting Igor Barkhatkov’s paintings for some time, and am very happy to add this one to my collection. As usual, communication with artist was excellent, and painting was shipped promptly, securely packed and well protected in wooden crate.

I never thought that a portrait of a person who is not a family member and whom I don’t even know, could find its place in my home. Not until I “met” Tamara- a woman from Belarus countryside, who is resting after day of hard work, knitting by the window. In simple clothing, holding the needles a bit too far from the eyes, like she needs glasses. Modest furniture covered by fabric, because it should outlast at least one more generation. Flowers in the vase, probably freshly cut from the garden. The tranquility of the moment, Igor Barkhatkov wonderfully captured on this painting, evokes a nostalgic feeling of passed times, when in almost every home lived one Tamara- grandmother, mother, aunt, who used to knit while resting after hard work. I had a great communication with artist from whom I learned more about the woman in painting. Artwork was sent promptly and arrived quickly, safely wrapped and packed in wooden crate with certificate of authenticity. Thank you, Igor, once again!

Among the stunning colorful Igor Barkhatkov’s paintings, one particular could be easily overlooked due to its soften, muffled colors- “The fog”. But once it catches the eye of viewer, it has so much to reveal- silhouettes of the houses and trees almost disappearing in distance, horses of different coat color grazing in the field, next to the plowed ground; sunlight piercing through the fog, and just a hint of a clear sky announcing that the fog will soon “give up”. Such a beautifully captured short period of the day in serene countryside. Love it! Painting was dispatched promptly, securely packed in a wooden crate, with certificate of authenticity. Communication with artist easy and prompt. Highly professional!

I acquired several beautiful paintings from Igor Barkhatkov- prominent Belarus painter, master of landscape and portraits, whose art has that particular sensibility, recognizable in works of painters from the former Soviet Union region. From each of his paintings emanates the atmosphere, which could be created only by artist who lives at the countryside, and deeply feels it. He masterfully captures both one particular short moment in time, and the dynamics of changing seasons. Winter landscape. Cloudy, with bright stripe of clear sky just above the horizon. Forest in distance. And a horse. Small silhouette, almost to overlook. Bare trees closer to the viewer. And one can clearly feel the silence of the winter day that Igor expertly creates. Wonderful! Also to mention, all the paintings I acquired were dispatched promptly, securely packed in wooden crates and arrived on time, or ahead of scheduled delivery date. I would like to give more stars in this review, but can mark only five. Thanks Igor!
