"Balloon Skies, 2015" by Emily Louise Heard

“Having recently moved to Warwickshire and experienced the wonderful, colourful countryside, I was inspired to paint a vibrant and magical piece depicting the beauty of the Cotswolds’ lavender fields at sunset. I also love how enchanting hot air balloons look as they float gently across the sky. To me, they represent a whimsical form of escapism from reality and I cannot help but wonder where they might be going.”

"Blue Haze, 2015" by Paul J Best

“‘Blue Haze’ is a heavily textured abstract painting created with a palette knife and reflective paints used to capture and reflect the light. This painting might evoke a harbour view to the viewer...but I hope that you can see something else in the Haze. I have been trying to develop a truly abstract painting style of late, which has proved to be frustratingly difficult .... but I hope that you can see my progress with this painting!”

"Streets of Vernazza..(2), 2014" by Cristina Mihailescu

“I like capturing the effect of the light in my paintings; I really love that joyful play between the light and shadows. I am also fascinated by colors; bold, vivid and healing colors, as I like to name them, expressed with powerful brush strokes in order to create a great visual impression. I also love to create a story as I paint...and yes! My painted stories always have happy endings. I think this painting is just one of my works that expresses a bit of everything that I love to create...color, light, emotion, texture, movement...and dreams. I hope you enjoy!”

"Crumble, 2015" by Jessica Bleasby

“‘Crumble’ is built up with many layers of rich artist quality oil colour on a large square deep edge canvas. I started by finding a photograph of a landscape that interested me, and used this to block in basic shapes using washes of paint. As I painted in thicker areas of colour I discarded the photograph and the painting took on a life of its own. I worked and reworked until I felt happy that the painting had the depth and balance that I had hoped for. The piece is energetic and being multi coloured means it would suit many interior space. The edges are painted in a slate grey that compliments the painting.”

"The Unknown, 2015" by Omar Obaid

“This painting means a lot to me, as I have reached a truly special moment in my life and I am about to become a father which is a completely new experience for me - hence the title of this painting, ‘The Unknown’. I didn't have a plan in my mind for this piece and as I was looking at the blank canvas, I let my imagination control my brush and what followed was a result of my feelings and emotions in that precise moment in time. I loaded the brush with paint and then started applying the colours in subtle strokes and layers to add texture and direction. I chose deep reds and naples yellow from my palette, finishing the piece off with accents of black and white. ”

"Cartagena, 2010" by Ingrid Dohm

“This was painted en plein air in Cartagena, Colombia in 2010 during a day's stop from a cruise ship. I had to make quick work of it because of the blazing hot sun which almost became unbearable. It was worth it since it portrays a typical street inside the old wall in portion of Cartagena. Can you feel the heat?”

"Cigarette Break, 2014" by Lee Ellis

“A little over a year ago I was flicking through a book of street photography by the recently discovered photographer, Vivian Maier. Her beautiful photography captured people in their most natural state and really struck a chord with me. I promised myself to paint ever piece from that book. So I did just that. All different shapes and sizes. This is by far my favourite; it's based on the photo of a farmer taking a well deserved break. The black and white photograph allowed me to be as creative as I liked with colours and the expressive style I am so fond of painting. I still remember the day I finished it. I stood back and realised I have created something I truly love. Now it is time to share it with everyone.”

"summer evening, 2015" by Darya Klunnikova

“Summer evening; the rays of the setting sun; the subtle aroma of tea roses...This painting gives you a magic moment, something elusive and beautiful. In my paintings I try to convey the beauty and uniqueness of each flower. It takes a lot of time and work. I am happy to invite you into my summer evening...”

"London's Burning, 2014" by Sally Willbanks

“I began this painting the same way that I begin most of my abstracts – with no preconceived idea of what the painting will look like. Painting for me is all about the process: the physicality of the paint, the energetic brushwork, the frenetic mark-making and writing-like scrawl, and combining this with quiet areas of peace and harmony, with the room to breathe. The titles always come afterwards, when I sit back and take the time to understand the painting I have just created. This piece reminded me of a town on fire, of the beauty of such destruction, thus the title “London’s Burning”.”

"Snowy Hills, 2014" by Tiffany Budd

“When I see a landscape, I see lots of colour, many lines and areas which I then block in. Snow, for instance, is not just white. It is lilac, purple, pale blue and jade, and I put this down into my painting. ‘Snowy Hills’ is a large pastel painting, where you can layer colour on colour and still see all the colours...I am a colour addict!”
