"Quintessence 2, 2012" by Jayne Gaze

“I was born at Sheinwood Manor, Shropshire, a rambling and gracefully ageing Georgian farmhouse. The fabric of the building felt imbued with history, almost as though if you were to peel back the tired wallpaper, you would see the very souls of the people who had lived there. ‘Quintessence 2’ evokes memories of my childhood home, and images of its fading beauty resonate in the work. My aim was to explore emotions and imbue each piece with fragility, atmosphere and intrigue. The result is a response, so subtle in parts, it is barely a breath or a touch.”

"de Beauvoir Plane, London, 2015" by Paul West

“The tower blocks of the 1960's de Beauvoir estate in London are incredibly iconic - I love the graphic starkness of the five high rises. From certain angles the London Plane trees dwarf these structures; the relationship between man-made and natural feels dynamic – at odds, yet inseparable in urban landscapes.”

"Langdale Beck, 2015" by David Pott

“A sunny, watery and cool painting of this beautiful stream in the English Lake District. By the time it gets to the pretty village of Chapel Style in Cumbria, the Langdale Beck is deep, clear and wide. It's also extremely cold, so this boy was especially brave diving into the crystal clear water!”

"Look What The Cat Dragged In, 2015" by Rennie Pilgrem

“A unique mono print on vintage 1970s map paper. The cat came into the house at 4am one morning meowing and carrying a beautiful Magnolia leaf in its mouth. It left it in the hallway as a gift, immensely proud (for some reason). Quite how she got it is a mystery as the tree is evergreen. So the only option was to make an artwork using it. The leaf was inked-up with relief ink and printed onto the paper by being passed through the printing press. It was then passed through again without inking it to create the ‘shadow’. This is the first in a series using this leaf found by Duchess.”

"Butterfly, 2015" by Charlotte Anna Reed HAPPY ART

“‘Butterfly’ was such an energetic and beautiful piece to paint. To me, there is nothing more fun than splattering and dripping a silly amount of ink, oil and acrylic paint on to a canvas to bring my art to life. I love creating pieces which ooze paint and texture, and ultimately make people happy. With ‘Butterfly’ I made sure a whole lot of paint and passion was used to create it, and I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I did painting it!”

"Christ Church, 2015" by Elia Kozak

“The incredibly beautiful Christ Church by Nicholas Hawksmoor is located in Spitalfields area in London. It is an absolutely stunning monumental building of compositional genius. For me it is one of the most inspiring and breathtaking churches today. In this painting I wanted to celebrate its beauty, softness and mass, to convey the sense of inspiration I have when I see this church.”

"Gifts, 2015" by Stephanie Well

“For my wooden sculptures I usually use wood that I find: off-cuts, ‘waste’ or driftwood, to breathe new life into a useless piece. In this case, I found this ‘bread’ shaped piece in the Italian countryside. I got inspired by the given shape and decided to rescue and recycle it. The three packages appear like three independent parts; the lower package is waxed and oiled, the smaller packages are painted and varnished. Thereby the three packages not only result in different shades of color, but also in different finishes.”

"Silver Waves III, 2014" by Andres Gallardo Albajar

“Bilbao is an amazing city, and if you have a couple of free hours, one of the best places to spend them is definitely around Guggenheim Museum. This master piece of modern architecture, designed by Frank Gehry, is some sort of paradise for photographers. The shot you are looking at is a detail of one of the multiple facades. One of the most interesting facts about Guggenheim Museum is that due to its curvy shape and the metallic structure, it casts all kinds of shadows and reflections. If you want to check more photos from this magic place, please visit my own page here at Artfinder.”

"Evening in Miniature, 2015" by Ruth Herbert

“An early winter's evening on the edge of one of the gravel pit lakes in the Lee Valley Park...the rooks flying off over the trees...the sun, low behind the trees and the reflections dancing on the water. I used gouache on silk with scraps of silk, organza, deconstructed lace and threads to give a luminescent quality. Small but perfectly formed, quiet and contemplative...”

"Serenity -Hawaiian Manta Ray Soaring Above the Reef Below, 2013" by K Whitworth

“One sunny day in Hawaii my husband and I ventured out into the waves on the north end of Hapuna beach. We were armed with snorkels and a hope to encounter some colorful fish. Turns out we got to experience way more! After ooooing and ahhhhing over the fish and corals we found ourselves at the end of an underwater lava outcropping where the water got deep and dark. We stayed close to the reef enjoying the sea-life when a shadow moved in from the deep below us. It was slow and graceful, barely distinguishable at first due to the distance between us. This enormous creature glided in effortlessly growing in size as it approached. I couldn't believe my eyes! I felt at ease, giddy, and drinking in the silent experience, knowing it would make it to my easel to relive forever...”
