"Portrait of a 70's fan" by Valerie Andriantsiferana

“This painting is part of a series named “Ceci est un portrait”, which means “This is a portrait”. The initial idea was to paint the absence; when there is not more than an empty chair. Then the idea became more playful: paint a portrait under the shape of an armchair. For each painting, I look for which armchair and imagery correspond to a person, famous or not. In this painting, it is actually the portrait of person who's a fan of the 70’s style. Velvet, patterned wallpaper, bright colors: this is 70’s!”

"Expression 0177, 2015" by Tekahem aka Thierry Van Kerm

“I was given the opportunity to exhibit during the Affordable Art Fair in Brussels. I like sharing the creation process with art lovers, so I decided to paint live. It was fun to see the light in peoples’ eyes as the painting appeared on the canvas...For this work, I asked for advice and recommendations from a young girl standing in the audience. She told me which colors I should use and pointed on the canvas where I should use them. Such a fun interaction!”

"Boom, 2015" by Chris Keegan

“This is a four-colour screenprint, which includes a metallic bronze layer. The print depicts the dynamic effect of a large imaginary explosion. Dark, light blue and red layers splash out in surprising shapes colours and tones creating a dramatic visual boom.”

"Den on Wimbledon Common, 2014" by Katharine Rowe

“I love the romance of coming across a den in the middle of a wood. To me it is the symbol of a happy afternoon spent outside. This was painted in early spring just as the silver birch wood was starting to turn green. I wanted to capture the warmth of sunshine on the leafy floor.”

"Lavender Field" by Kirstin McCoy

“This painting on canvas captures lavender fields of Provence with the mountains in the background and the Mistral Wind blowing the clouds above. The colour, the texture, and the scent of lavender encapsulate for many the essence of Provence and the South of France.”

"Alchemy III (Chrome), 2015" by Nestor Toro

“All of my paintings start with big bold strokes of many colors. I love creating those first layers, building up into a complex combination of shapes, colors and patters. This piece was made using palette knives and rubber spatulas then drizzled with endless amounts of clear string gel, swirling layer after layer to create the finishing texture, which is very striking.”

"Urban Reflections, 2014" by Bhavani Krishnan

“Cityscapes are my latest fascination. The roads, tall buildings, long shadows, trams, bridges, cars and so much more. The possibilities are endless. The city beckons and I am excited and thrilled to explore it...won't you join me and walk down the streets of Portland with me?”

"Reflection, 2014" by Yumi Kudo

“This is an unique mixed-media painting created with watercolor, paper and acrylic on watercolor paper. I was inspired to create this work after I had visited Spitalfields market in London. There was an artificial pond with real waterlilies by the market square, and the water reflected the tall glass buildings nearby. I thought it would be an interesting composition to paint, displaying nature in the modern cityscape.”

"Gaia Hidden Stories series, 2015 #5, 2015" by Dhyana Fritsche

“My images are concerned with the obscure elements in nature which I find in my immediate surroundings; a place where I feel a strong sense of belonging and safety. The influence of this on me and the spiritual connections to the land acknowledge the understanding of an illusory place. The project is beyond accurate representation; I am concerned with the free flowing unpredictability of the developing imagery and use visual layers during the exposures in order to discover an aura. An aspect of conception was the selection and framing through a reverse image.”

"Paris, 2015" by Claudio Cionini

“This painting is very representative for my work. Paris is the city that fascinates me most: its culture, its architecture, art and literature are nourishment for my creation. Giacometti, the great artist, one day exclaimed "Paris sans fin!" I painted a boulevard hit by a warm light that illuminates the depth of the road. The prospect leads one’s eye towards infinity. There is no traffic, no people - the protagonist is the great, eternal beauty of Paris. The technique is based on layers of acrylic colours on supports of wooden boards treated with scratched gypsum.”
