"Chorus at the Wake of the Sun, 2012" by Kate Rattray

“I like the idea of duality in symbols, so here is an eye, but it is also the sun (pupil) in the sky (iris). It is an apocalyptic vision; a chorus of birds within the sun are trying to escape as the sun dies and turns black. (In the mosaic the sun is made using an iridescent bronze/ gold glass that in some light turns black.) The mosaic was made over 3 years, a painstaking process using pieces of stained glass cut into strips and ground to a point to fit into the circle. The strips are set on edge to show the lovely fleck in the middle of the blue glass that you wouldn't normally see in a stained glass art piece. The birds are made by cutting the glass around to leave the shape and filling it with grout (my "drawing in grout" method).”

"Wild Summer Time, 2015" by Charlotte Anna Reed HAPPY ART

“I painted this summery abstract piece to brighten up a gloomy day...I used a mixture of ink, oil & acrylic to make the composition ooze depth & texture. I am constantly inspired by the British countryside and her woodlands, carpeted with wondrous wild flowers. I hope you enjoy this piece as much as I did painting it.”

"Let's Get It Over With, 2013" by Sal Jones

“From a series of works involving female leads from dramas and thrillers, I hope to capture a moment, a gesture, an expression that conveys some of their pragmatism and turmoil and also their strength and beauty. We don’t get the whole story but a glimpse into the character portrayed.”

"To the Cove, 2015" by Mel Graham

“Peace and calm is what I look for beside the sea, and especially when I visit the quiet coves in Cornwall. This piece utilises the earthy and shimmering colour of bronze against the sheer dark rocky cliffs, in contrast with the vibrant hues of teal and prussian blue lapping against the shoreline below, complementing the bright magenta and white sailing boats out at sea. Put together, they form a typical Cornish seascape. I hope this piece gives you time for contemplation...”

"Always on Stage II, 2015" by Stephanie Jory

“I wanted to take a new direction with my work - creating something looser and less detailed but still with the emphasis on creating movement and expression of the body. I love using bigger brushes and charcoal. The black charcoal on the black paint creates a textural contrast that's quite velvety and luxurious in the contrast to the block colouring on the figures.”

"Landscape with Teasels, 2015" by Dee Evans

“This painting was produced from sketching trips to the River Waveney at Earsham on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. I hoped to convey the peace and tranquillity of the place rather than paint a realistic image. Visits to this part of the Waveney valley are always inspiring in all seasons and just a few moments after picking up sketchbook and pen the magic of the surroundings instil a feeling of calmness and serenity.”

"A Quiet Field, 2014" by Guy Manning

“Poppies, near Monet's house in Giverny, France. A tiny village with lots of people visiting Monet's beautiful gardens including waterlilies and roses. On the edge of the village was this perfect field, full of poppies and all the emotions they bring with them. I have painted layer upon layer of oil paint to show the light and the airy-ness where the sun picks out petals and grasses, oaks behind in the distance. Hot, unforgettably quiet and deeply moving.”

"Wild Fells" by Ben McLeod

“The vast and isolated hillsides of the Howgill Fells have a quality all of their own. Overlooked by the majority of visitors who flock to the Lakeland Fells - and once described by Wainwright as 'sleeping elephants' - they whisper quietly in their isolation and ruggedness. I have attempted here to capture the vast swathes of grass and moorland with strong sweeping flows of paint as the hills interlock and shadow each other.”

"FLORAL STILL LIFE No 1, 2015" by Patricia Awapara

“This lively acrylic painting was inspired by the colors of summer. Everything is brigther in this season. I love texture as well. So this artwork is the combination of both. My new series of floral paintings are as a result uplifting and happy!”

"Late Spring Rape Field 1, 2015" by Cecilia Virlombier

I drove past this field of bright rape early in spring. It's right where the road splits, and the colour was blinding - I had to stop and take some photos, which later turned into this semi abstract painting.”
