"When You Are Gone, 2015" by MULLO ART

“Excuse the pun, but I am always drawn to the people I paint, and with Alexandra this was most true. Alexandra is a lady that jogs past my home frequently, and I couldn't help notice the great character she possessed, so one day I just had to stop her and ask if she would be interested in sitting for me, thankfully she said yes. When painting her I made great effort to connect with her emotions and inner straight, I feel I was successful with this task and managed to glimpse and capture part of her soul on canvas.”

"Energy Falls, 2015" by Valerie Erichsen Thomson

“When I begin to paint, typically I'm simply responding to color, form and texture. A few bold strokes and all of a sudden there is an unanticipated waterfall full of energy in an abstracted landscape. Magic!”

"Sand Play II, 2014" by Claire McCall

“Lost in his own world of sand and imagination, this little boy is busy making precious childhood memories with bucket and spade in hand. The contrasting colours of the wetsuit against a blue background I think has great impact.”

"Abstract Skyscape Painting - "Marou" Acrylic on Artist Paper, 2015" by Saba+Rou

“When we capture a sight of beautiful sunsets we are lucky enough to see a magical range of colours in the sky, this painting emphasises these beautiful sky scenes and imagines a world where the sky produces even more beautiful scenes.”

"Roadside Poppies, 2015" by Alexandra Buckle

“I spotted these poppies growing on a roadside verge on a beautiful sunny day and couldn't resist capturing them. I was particularly drawn to the shape of the curving stems on the poppy buds and the brightness of the red petals with the summer light shining through them from across the nearby field. I chose to describe these poppies with five layered up colours which I cut and hand printed all from one block of lino.”

"Arlecchino, 2015" by rosalind lyons

“This painting is inspired by the Commedia dell' Arte characters, and the decorative qualities of Venetian architecture. The character here is the harlequin, or 'Arlecchino' in Italian. I am fascinated by Elizabethan dress, and could not resist including a Tudor ruff in the figure's costume.”

"A field of yellow, 2015" by Sam Martin

“The wild flowers we have in our fields and hedgerows are beautiful and often underrated. A walk around my local field inspired me to paint this view.”

"Cambridge May Ball, 2015" by Cain

“This is the second in a series of works inspired by the May Ball which are held at the colleges of Cambridge University. The tradition of May Balls in Cambridge started in the 1830s with the first official one being the First and Third Trinity Boat Club May Ball in 1866. It is thought they developed from the celebrations surrounding successes in the May Bumps - a set of rowing races which used to take place before the university examinations in May each year. The balls were moved from May to June in 1882, and still take place in June, after examinations, but the name has been retained.”

"Rainbow shadows, 2015" by Alexander Koltakov

“The summer for me is an exciting mix of shimmering light, rich bright colors and sweet heady smells. In all my summer paintings I aspire to express this fascinating mix on the canvas by my brushes and palette knifes. "Rainbow shadows" consists of sun spots and color shadows from the wonderful summer flowers. It is amazing how many different hues shadows possess, how fast they have been changing and transforming, like they become alive.”
