"Grapes, 2015" by Alexander Koltakov

“It is early autumn now, sunny warm days, trees just touched by the red and yellow paints of the fall. This is the time for grapes to show themselves through the leaves as a joyful colorful beads full of sweet tasty juice. From the ancient times to nowadays grapes have been an everlasting inspiration to painters and other art creators.”

"Aqua Meadow, 2015" by Charlotte Anna Reed HAPPY ART

“This abstract piece was painted with a great about of love, ink, oil & acrylic paint on a box canvas in Brighton. I really enjoy experimenting with ink...letting it splatter and drip down the canvas- allowing it to have a mind of its own is a personal favourite of mine. The energy it creates in the painting is something which I love and I hope comes across in my paintings. I really hope Aqua Meadow brings you as much joy as I did painting it.”

"Sliced! - Original Still Life, 2015" by Nithya Swaminathan

“I usually try to work in a series, and love to see how my creativity works within a limited framework. It is extremely fulfilling to come up with as many arrangements as possible with a specific set of objects. So after painting the nectarines as a whole a couple of times, I decided to slice them up. I also wanted to go in for a brighter background, hence the turquoise sheet of paper. This painting is completed using a limited palette - just 4 colours including white.”

"Never be Mine, 2015" by Raffaella Bertolini

“Having always been fascinated by the well known rhyme "One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret never to be told." This is the first of a series of paintings inspired by magpies and the superstitions regarding this bird. In this painting, the two magpies are a metaphor representing the internal battle in ones life, brought on by some kind of painful experiences, causing the incapability to love someone or to keep a lasting relationship.”

"Archibalding, 2012" by Sandra Busby

“Meet Archie, short for Archibald... and then lengthened again to 'Archibalding' due to his ever-increasing loss of fur! Born some time between 1935 and 1952 (he believes), Archibalding and I celebrated his possible 'somethingth' birthday over a glass or two of red… "Of course one might prefer something a little more vintage, like me." said he. "Oh yes", said I... "for some things merely improve with age." "Like me?" said he... "Oh yes", definitely like you!" said I. And then we sipped wine together and talked about the beauty of all things old...”

"Tweet Tweet, 2015" by Suzie Cumming

“This piece has a rich history of layers. It was started in the Spring and began as a colourful mix of collage to which one large bird was added. Layers were added and eventually the bird became a garden of flowers and after living with the painting for a while I decided that the garden was lacking something. A new bird was painted and soon another joined this little birdie and the picture suddenly came to life. I can hear the chirping conversation between the two birds and feel the warmth of the Summer days as I look at this.”

"Midnight Concert, 2015" by Karen Wise

"It was late evening as I viewed the Basilica Di San Marco in the worlds most enchanting city - Venice. Then as we strolled through the grand square I became aware of the sound of melodious strings from a musical quintet, filling the evening air, so I was inextricably drawn towards the music. I found my vantage point in full view of this impromptu concert. Taking my seat, as the ensemble drew even more delight for me and those around me, I reached for my sketch pad. This is what I captured there, that evening, in that moment."

""Spring Dance II", 2014" by Dara Daniel

“One early morning, while I was riding my bike along a country road, out at the bottoms in Arcata, California and saw this colorful field of wild mustard. Past the mustard the view extended out to the west. The ocean was just behind the ridge, close enough that you could smell it in the cool breeze. This was a very inspiring scene and, since then, I have painted quite a few canvases inspired by wild flowers growing in the cattle pastures, in this area. For this painting, my goal was to convey, to the viewer, a sense of standing in the mustard flowers, looking out seeing and sensing the vastness and distance.”

"61, 2015" by Jill Griffin

“This piece is a real landmark for me - it took 8 months to complete, painstakingly completing each fish - with more than five layers, considering very carefully each layer of watercolour and iridescent medium. I don't think I have put more thought into any single painting, from composition, drawing and layering washes. The iridescent layer changes the appearance of the work with the changing light and reveals, at oblique angles, a whole new dimension: really it is more than one picture. It seems to me to mark the end of a journey with this particular subject..it is the final piece, the last hurrah, the epic culmination of a whole range of previous explorations. I can finally say - 'that IS what I meant'.”
