“In this large piece I restricted myself to mostly black and white and let the dynamic of the composition speak to the viewer. Strong strokes of thick paint were applied with the pallet-knife in fast fluid motions against a black primed canvas, disrupted by splashes of dark red. The whole scene is an abstraction of a car race action scene as seen in the movie I borrowed the title from. Enjoy!”

The weightlessness and near silence experienced by the swimmer when submerged can be paralleled by those experienced in outer space. I wanted to highlight these similarities in this piece. The sparkles of reflected light of the water, deep shadows and swirling ripples are a nod to distant galaxies and stars one can observe when looking into the night sky.”
